Waris Shah’s Urs postponed due to Ramazan

SHEIKHUPURA - The three-day annual Urs celebrations of mystic Punjabi poet and author of ‘Heer’ Pir Syed Waris Shah which was scheduled to be started from July 23, at Waris Shah Complex Jandiala Sher Khan, has been postponed due to the holy month of Ramazan. The decision was by the literary, social and religious circles after a meeting keeping in view the fall of the holy month of Ramazan.The meeting also decision that now the Urs celebrations would be held from September 23 to 25. It is to ne noted that the Urs celebrations of Waris Shah’s father Syed Gul Sher Shah has been held every year on the same date in the month of September.FARMER BUMPED OFF: A farmer was shot dead by two unidentified armed men while working in fields here in suburban town Warburton, some 26-km from here. Landlord Sohail Nasir, a resident of village Ghona Tibba was irrigating his fields when two veiled assailants, riding a bike, opened indiscriminate fire, killing Sohail on the spot. The police handed over the body to the family after autopsy.441 POs nicked in crackdown: On the direction of District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Haider Ashraf, the Sheikhupura District Police have arrested 441 proclaimed offenders and recovered weapons, contrabands and liquor from their possession. As per detail, the police in a drive launched against anti-social elements recovered 14 Kalashnikovs, 22 rifles, 30 guns, 2 revolver and 92 pistols. The police also recovered 936 gram of heroine, 170 of gram opium, 6.9 kgs of hashish and 426 litres wine during the drive. The DPO also warned all the SHOs to improve their performance particularly with regard to investigation of the cases, saying that no negligence would be tolerated in this regard. He also pledged that all-out resources would be utilised eliminate crime from the district.
