ISLAMABAD - Minister for States and Frontier Region Abbas Afridi Wednesday informed the Lower House of the Parliament that Pakistan had not yet granted MFN status to India.
He said India had granted MFN status to Pakistan in 1996. Pakistan maintains a negative list of items for trade with India, he added. To another question, the minister said that a total quantity of 5,243 metric tons of urea had been imported through Gwadar Port, Port Qasim and KPT during the last five years. He said that the commerce ministry was making constant efforts to increase exports through market access initiatives and trade promotion efforts
A total of $3.179b under Kerry Lugar Bill provided by the United States has been disbursed from 2009 to 2012 including $2.1b for civilian assistance and $1.06b for flood. "In Financial year 2010, a total of $1.513b was indicated while $1.039b was pledged. A total of $29.24m was also obligated In FY 2011. In FY 2012, $ 670 million disbursed till June 2012 while US released additional $280m on August 2012 to support energy sector (total disbursed: $950m)," Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar told National Assembly.
In written reply to the questions of MNA Nisar Tanveer, the Minister stated that total disbursement from 01 October 2009 to 30 September 2012 stands at US $ 3.179 billion. A total of $ 1.026 was appropriated in 2012-13 but yet to be determined, she said.
While giving detail, the Minister said that 4.81 % ($ 143.8 million) was disbursed in energy sector, 4.23 % ($126.6 million) in Economic Growth including agriculture, 20.7 % ($621.9 million) for stabilization of USAID, 11 % ($330.8 million) for education, 6.2 %($186 million) in health, 10.48 % ($313.1 million) for social/humanitarian assistance, 2.9 % ($ 86.9 million) for Cross-Cutting-Democracy and Governance and 34.6 % ($1.035 billion) for emergency flood Response.
