ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Rehman Malik has disclosed that he declined an offer to become caretaker Sindh chief minister made by the party leadership and the MQM.
Talking to media outside the Parliament House on Wednesday, he said he expressed his inability to accept the offer due to personal reasons.
The interior minister asked Sharif brothers to stop defending Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ). He said he has sought a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister to present him proofs about involvement of LJ in acts of terrorism.
He said he never named Sharif brothers in connection with acts of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi but when he speaks about the arrest of Malik Ishaq, the two brothers start defending him.
He said al Qaeda, TTP and LJ had prepared a conspiracy to get the elections postponed through carrying out bomb blasts.
He said in the coming days there could be reduction in bomb blasts but warned that target killings could go up. He claimed that he has got a copy of the conspiracy that was prepared across the border. He said he was daily receiving threats from Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
He vowed to eliminate the LJ and its backers. He said had Punjab government taken action against the banned organisation, there would not have been attacks in Quetta and Karachi.
He questioned as to why LJ was targeting Shia community in Karachi and Quetta. Malik said the PPP during its five year rule did not indulge in political victimisation.
