PESHAWAR - Three people were killed and another wounded when the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rains on Thursday morning. The incident took place in the Gulberg area when a family was sleeping. Locals and relatives retrieved the bodies and injured from the debris and shifted to hospital. Downpour lashed different parts of the country. The low-lying areas were inundated while up to four-foot water was accumulated on streets and roads, exposing the government’s monsoon plan. On the other hand, the Meteorological Department predicted more rain in upper parts of the country during the next 24-hour.Meanwhile, the rescuers retrieved three more bodies of Machyara stream tragedy victims in AJK. On Wednesday, flashflood in Nasirabad tehsil of AJK swept away 17 people while four bodies were recovered. A hunt for the remaining ones was on. Reportedly, torrential rains had also caused landslide in the locality. In the same area, a woman and her two-year-old child died from lightning.The monsoon wave hit different parts of the country, as heavy rains were reported from Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Jamshoro, Badin, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Umer Kot, Chor, Khokhrapar, Bhakkar, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Balakot, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Swat and other areas.The Neelum-Muzaffarabad Road was blocked for all sorts of traffic due to land sliding while the administration instructed the residents living at the banks of River Jhelum to shift to safer locations. Skardu, Astore, Chilas and other areas of Gilgit-Baltistan also received rain, while light snowfall was also reported in upper parts of Skardu.
