MOHMAND AGENCY - A Mohmand Agency’s tribal jirga Thursday set a four-day deadline for the political administration to ensure release of the arrested elders, otherwise they would boycott the local political administration of the agency.
To press government for meeting their demands, a meeting of Mohmand Grand Tribal Jirga was held at Ghalania bazaar, the headquarters of Mohmand Agency. The jirga was also attended by elders of Halimzai, Targzai, Essa Khel, Burhan Khel, Tamanzai and other tribes of the agency.
Prominent among them were Malak Mehmood, Malak Ilam Khan, Malak Amir Nawaz, Malak Nusrat, Malak Daud, Malak Tehmash, Malak Nisar, Malak Ismail and Malak Mehraban, who attended the jirga.
They were of the view that they had ever cooperated with government. Besides, tribesmen have sacrificed in restoration of peace in the agency. Instead of enhancing their incentives, the political administration of the agency has stopped their old perks, which was regrettable, they added.
Not only this, the political administration of the agency has started arresting tribal elders and so far a number of tribal elders have been sent behind the bars, which they termed an injustice with them.
To meet their demand which included the restoration for perks and privileges of the tribal elders and release of the arrested tribal elders by the political administration must be resolved within next four days, otherwise they would be left with option no other than to boycott all sort of activities by the political administration of Mohmand Agency.
They said that next meeting of the jirga would be held on Tuesday next, whereas future line of action would be drawn. Assistant political agent of the agency Jamshid Khan has said that the administration of the agency has taken a step to reactivate the Khasadar force for restoring peace in the agency.
