The house through the resolution said that the incumbent government is going to complete its tenure but unfortunately a so-called religious scholar is playing on the agenda of aliens who is not only propagating against the teachings of Islam but can cause postponement of the upcoming elections as well as democracy, the resolution said.
The resolution was read out by PML (N) MPA Barrister Javed Abbassi on the floor of the house, which met with Speaker Kiramatullah Khan in the chair. The resolution was supported jointly by the treasury and opposition lawmakers including Senior Minister Rahimdad Khan, Minister for Law Arshid Abdullah, PML (Q) MPA Qalandar Lodhi, MPA Kifayatullah of the JUI (F) and Sikandar Sherpao of Qaumi Watan Party.
It said sensing their defeat in the upcoming elections, such elements are behind the electoral reforms.
If they contest elections they would definitely be defeated, the resolution said.
Through the resolution the Assembly has demanded of the Election Commission to continue preparations for elections without any fear and threat. Besides, it has appealed to all the political forces to get united and foil the conspiracy against democracy.
Speaking on the floor of the house Barrister Javed Abbassi said that Shaikh ul Islam Tahirul Qadri, chief of Pakistan Awami Tehreek couldn’t be loyal to Pakistan but he is loyal to Canada after taking Canadian citizenship oath.
Democracy has restored after many sacrifices rendered by political parties, he said adding that former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and senior minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour have sacrificed for the democracy.
“Why Shaikh ul Islam didn’t come for the help of the victims of disastrous earthquake in 2005, floods in 2010 and continued militancy”, he said, adding how he realized all of the sudden that electoral reforms were necessary.
He added that Shaikh ul Islam has been supported by the hidden hands who wanted civil war in Pakistan.
KPK Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said that for the first time in the history of Pakistan an impartial Election Commission has been established with consensus of the government and opposition. He urged all political parties to stop such elements intending to derail democracy.
He maintained that if a drama was staged to postpone the elections, it would mean that hidden hands want to bring their own people in the government, he said. “If there were no democratic people in the country then who will resist the militants”, he uttered. Besides other JUI (F) MPA Hafiz Akhtar Ali and MPA Israrullah Gandapur also spoke on the occasion.
