16 Highway officials, contractor booked

GUJRANWALA - On the orders of Gujranwala Anti-Corruption Director, a case was registered against four Executive Engineers, three sub-divisional officer, three sub-engineers, two account officers and a contractor of the Punjab Highway Department on charge of embezzlement here the other day.

As per detail, a contract for the construction of a bridge on Tavi river situated in district Sialkot, was awarded to Tahir Mahmood Naeem, for an amount of Rs180 million.
The aforesaid officers made payment of the contract but the bridge was not built and the work at site was not completed as stipulated in the contract agreement.
The matter took up by the locals and requested the Punjab Chief Minister to look into the matter. They also demand the completion of the bridge as per the initial plan.
The Chief Minister ordered Anti-Corruption Director Naeemud Din Rathore to carry out inquiry the matter.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment constituted an inquiry team. After inquiry, they held executive engineers Malik Mehr Muhammad, Khalid Hamdani, Ch Abdul Ghafoor, SDO Nawazish Ali Shah, Mubashir Ali Bajwa, Zahid Aman, Sub-Engineers, Fayyaz Mirza, Muhammad Younas and Muhammad and Divisional Account Officers - Javed Iqbal and Sabir Ali and contractor Tahir Mahmood Naeem. A case under the relevant provisions of law has registered against them.
Two Gujranwalars among Turbat tragedy victims: Two persons belonged to Gujranwala were among the 18 victims gunned down by miscreant in Turbat the other day.
As per detail, the victims Shahbaz Ahmad Bhatti, and Fayyaz Ahamd, belonged to Nowshera Road Gujranwala City.
They had paid money to an agent to go broad to get some job. But they were killed while travelling in a bus that was going to Iran.  It may be recalled that some unknown persons opened fire on Iran-bound passengers who were waiting at Dasht Khadan in Turbat area, killing 18 persons and wounding one.
