UoP makes arrangements for I-Day celebrations

PESHAWAR - University of Peshawar will celebrate the Independence Day with national spirit and patriotic zeal.
This was decided in a meeting regarding Independence Day celebrations with Treasurer Iftikhar Hussain Khan in the chair. It was decided that special lighting arrangements would be made on all the major buildings of the University on August 13. The day would start with Khatm-ul-Quran at mosque of the university, which would be followed by prayer for peace and prosperity of the motherland. Flag hoisting ceremony would be done on August 14 at 8am by Vice Chancellor UoP Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz, which will be followed by guard of honor from Campus Police Corps. A formal function on the day would feature Naat, National Songs and Speech competition among the students of University of Peshawar and its constituent institutes.
Pakistan Study Centre would arrange a book fair on the day at UoP Central Library.
A formal committee was formed to look into the arrangements comprising of Director Administration Ishtiqullah Khan, Director Sports Bahrekaram, Administrative Officer Fazal Sher, Irfanullah Khan Web Administrator, SHO campus and others.
Addressing the meeting treasurer Iftikhar Hussain Khan said, University of Peshawar was the first institute established after independence and founded on the wish of the father of the nation.
The Directorate of sports University of Peshawar has started special ‘Independence Night Cricket Tournament’. Final of the tournament would be played on August 14, 2012.
