US senators conclude visit to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - A US Congressional delegation comprising Senator Carl Levin (D-MI), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), Member, Senate Armed Services Committee, have concluded their important two-day visit to Pakistan, says a US Embassy press statement issued here on Tuesday.

While in Islamabad, Senators Levin and Reed met with Prime Minister Raja Ashraf, Foreign Minister Hina and Chief of Army Staff Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. The Senators also held consultations with US Ambassador Richard Olson. The Senators’ visit builds upon a series of recent high-level engagements between the US and Pakistan that seek to identify shared interests and act on them jointly. Senators Levin and Reed reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to work with Pakistan to fight terrorism, support a stable and secure Afghanistan, increase economic opportunity, and strengthen civilian democracy, tolerance, pluralism, and civil society.
They also expressed their condolences for the recent acts of violence that have taken so many lives across the country.
