ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has written a letter to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, stating that an independent investigation should be conducted into allegations against him in the Rental Power Projects (RPP) case.

In his letter, the prime minister wrote that corruption allegations against him were a point of disgrace for the country and he had never tried to influence the NAB or any other institution.
The PM, who was the then water and power minister along with 15 others, have been accused in the RPPs scam case.
Separately, the prime minister said that the people can see the difference between dictatorship and democracy akfter the successful completion of tenure by the present government. He was speaking to workers of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) belonging to the federal capital at the Prime Minister's House on Friday.
He said that workers of the party were like a family spread all over the country. The PPP, he said, had presence in every part and area of the country.
The prime minister said that it was PPP which gave voice to the common man and the downtrodden sections of society.
He said that he hailed from a middle class family and understood the impact of inflation and unemployment on the common man. He reminded the workers of the challenging circumstances in which the government had been working. The prime minister said that the PPP had rendered great sacrifices for the cause of democracy in the country and the President voluntarily transferred his powers to Parliament.
The prime minister urged the party workers to go into the field and campaign for their candidates with the confidence that the PPP had achievements to its credit.
