Lahore - The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Monday directed Punjab Home Department to permit Indian prisoner on death row Sarabjeet Singh to have a meeting with his counsel at Kot Lakhpat jail. Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial issued this order while disposing of a petition moved by Advocate Awais Sheikh and asked Inspector General (Prisons) to make arrangements for the meeting. The counsel submitted that jail authorities didn’t allow him to meet his client which was the violation of his fundamental rights. IG Prisons submitted his reply and stated that no case of Sarabajeet Singh was pending in the court as his all cases including mercy petition had been rejected. He said it would be unnecessary to allow an Indian prisoner to have meeting with his counsel. The Chief Justice, however, directed the IG Prisons to give petitioner lawyer one time permission to meet his client.
