US to review drone policy, claims Malik

KARACHI - Interior Minister Rehman Malik claimed on Monday that following opposition of the Pakistani government, the US officials had assured him that they would review the policy of using drones in tribal areas.
Talking to media persons on his arrival from USA at Karachi Airport, Malik said he apprised the US government of Pakistani people’s concern about drone attacks which were counter-productive.
Malik said he told US officials that Pakistanis strongly disliked drone attacks. Malik said he also told them that Pakistani rulers were dubbed as American stooge due to Washington’s drone policy, claiming that the US officials assured him that they would review the policy of using drones.
Malik said he met US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and US Attorney General and handed them a letter about Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
To a question about Pakistani Taliban, the interior minister said it seemed the terror outfit had split into groups and its chief Hakimullah Mehsood was no more acting as Ameer of the organisation.
The interior minister said if he had no control over the Taliban factions he should give up violence and go for Hajj and Umrah.
Regarding dual nationality case, Malik said the ruling PPP had great respect for judiciary and its leaders appeared before the judges whenever they were summoned. Malik said PPP rulers always supported supremacy of law in the country.
