Balochistan reels under violence

QUETTA - At least four persons including nephew of slain Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) General Secretary Habib Jalib Baloch Advocate and a religious leader were shot dead in separate acts of violence in different towns of Balochistan, on Wednesday.According to police, Aziz Pirkani was sitting in his shop located on Eastern Bypass near cattle market of Quetta when four armed men appeared on the scene and opened indiscriminate firing on him. As a result, he sustained critical injuries and died before reaching the hospital. Police and rescue workers rushed to the site and shifted the body to Civil Hospital Quetta for autopsy. “The incident seemed to be a case of target killing,” a police official told TheNation, adding investigation was under way to unearth real motive behind the murder.Aziz Pirkani was nephew of slain BNP-Mengal General Secretary Habib Jalib Baloch Advocate who was also shot dead in July 2010, near his house in Sariab locality.A large number of BNP-Mengal workers rushed to the hospital after receiving the news and strongly condemned the incident. They brought body of Aziz Pirkani outside Quetta Press Club in a shape of rally and staged a demo.Protesters shouted slogans against the government and demanded for immediate arrest of the culprits.BNP-Mengal’s central Secretary General Agha Hassan Baloch, Ghulam Nabi Marri, Saeed Kurd addressing on the occasion condemned the brutal murder of Aziz Pirkani and held government responsible for his murder. “President Asif Ali Zardari, Chief Minister Raisani and Governor Magsi are responsible for this brutal murder and they would have to answer for this,” they said, adding, that through a conspiracy political process in Balochistan was being sabotaged.In another incident, unidentified motorcyclists killed a religious leader at Sariab Road of Quetta. Police said that Maulvi Ameer Hussain of Madrassah Dar-ul-uloom Sariab Road Custom area was on his way when he was sprayed with bullets due to which he died on the spot after getting multiple bullet wounds.Police rushed to the site after the incident and shifted the body to Civil Hospital Quetta. “We are trying to ascertain motive behind the murder, however, no accused has been arrested in this connection so far,” a police official added. In another incident, a person Zahoor Shah was shot dead in Khuzdar district, some 360 km away from Quetta.The attackers escaped from the site. Motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, Levies officials, on a tip-off that a body was lying in Balochabad area of Mand in Kech district rushed to the site and shifted the body to hospital.The body was identified as Abdul Sattar.Levies officials said that the deceased was shot dead with bullets and further investigations were underway.Meanwhile, unidentified people attacked the office of Election Commission of Pakistan with hand grenade in Panjgour, a district bordering with Iran, on Wednesday. According to police, armed men riding a motorbike hurled grenade at the office located at Chattan Road of Panjgour that landed with a huge blast, smashing windowpanes of the office. “Nobody was present in the office when the hand grenade attack was carried out,” police said, adding, that nobody was hurt in the attack. The attackers managed to flee from the scene after throwing the grenade.APP adds: An intelligence official was shot dead here on Samungli Road in the jurisdiction of Khezi police station on Wednesday.DIG (Operations) Quetta Hamid Shakil said unidentified armed assailants got Mohammad Nazir, inspector of an intelligence agency off the auto-rickshaw and shot him dead. Assailants managed to escape after committing the murder.A police team reached the site and shifted the body to Bolan Medical Complex for medico-legal formalities.
