PPP MNA Jamshed Dasti chaired the committee meeting in Islamabad in which the issue of oil theft of billions of rupees from combined pipelines of PSO and Parco in Mehmood Kot was raised. Expressing displeasure over the absence of PSO and Parco MDs, the NA body asked the police to arrest PSO MD Naeem Yaha Mir and his Parco counterpart Tariq Razavi and bring them in the committee meeting. Dasti warned the Petroleum and Natural Resources Ministry to take action against the perpetrators otherwise the matter would be referred to the Supreme Court.
He opined that the apex court put generals, politicians and bureaucrats on the right track.
During the meeting, the Punjab Police presented its report on oil theft from the combined pipelines of PSO and Parco. The report states that 1.1 million litres furnace oil and 20,000 litres diesel were stolen with the alleged involvement of PSO officials. The authorities have arrested five people in the case and recovered Rs0.8.5 million from them.
Dasti said: "When action can be taken against parliamentarian, why these MDs were spared."
He argued that why the officials of those two departments did not realise that such a massive theft was being carried out. "How it is possible that billions of rupees oil was stolen and the departments remained unaware of it."
Two police officials are also allegedly involve in the theft, Dasti told the meeting.
The committee also summoned the petroleum secretary, declaring that in case of his absence, he would also be arrested The outspoken lawmaker also castigated Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain, saying that the advisor failed to overcome the CNG crisis, which was denting the economy. He said that the advisor was an incompetent man who was ineligible for such a key slot.
“He has hijacked the Petroleum Ministry and due to his ineptness, serious issues are emerging in the ministry,” the NA body chairman said.
