Growers blast water pilferage

HAFIZABAD - Paddy growers of Madhora Khalan, Sakhi, Shah Jamal, Hazari and over a dozen other villages on Monday staged a sit-in at district complex to protest against the irrigational water pilferage from Kot Nakka branch distributary by influential landlords. They said that due to pilferage the irrigational water was not reaching their villages, resultantly they were facing a lot of hardship in planting paddy. They demanded stringent measures to check water pilferage from the said distributary.

Three nicked with contraband: The City Police have conducted raids on different places and nabbed three drug peddlers. The police also seized 1,025 grams of hashish and 331 grams of heroin from their possession.
On a tip-off, the City Police raided different places and rounded up Tanveer Hussain, Saqib, Arshad Mahmood. The police registered three separate cases against them.
Public co-op sought for anti-polio drive: Anti-Polio drive In-chage Dr Touqeer Nawaz has appealed to the parents to extend cooperation to the health department field staff in making the anti-polio drive a success.
He, however, warned that those parents found hesitant to get their kids vaccinated would be taken to task and would be booked under relevant law. He further said that policeman would also accompany the field staff during the drive, which will be launched next week.
Khosa, Elahi due on 14th: Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa and Deputy Prime Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi are scheduled to visit Wachhoke (Hafizabad) on July 14.
They would inaugurate sui gas supply in Wachhoke village in the evening and would also address a public gathering.
They are visiting the area on the invitation of Federal Minister for Works Ch Liaquat Abbas Bhatti.
