CHINIOT - The police avenged the murder of two businessmen by killing the dacoits in the ensuing shootout that occurred when the police gave the accused a chase here the other night.

As per detail, three dacoits were sitting in a car MNA-1007 parked at Satellite Town Chiniot for a long time. Being suspected, local traders Maqsood Ahmad, Mohammad Usman, Javed Ahmad, Alif Din and Ghulam Mohammad went to the car and asked the riders about their identity. At which, the dacoits opened firing, killing Maqsood and Shahzad both brothers on the spot while Shahzad and Javed sustained serious bullet wounds. The culprits left the vehicle and ran towards main road where they snatched a motorcycle from one Mohammad Ishfaq and fled towards Faisalabad Road.
Meanwhile, the City Police started chasing the dacoits and besieged them in the crop fields near Shams Mills, 5-km from here. A shootout erupted between the dacoits and the police personnel which continued for some time. As soon as the firing subsided, the police found two of the dacoits who were identified as Adnan Khan and Malik Sajid, residents of Multan city dead along with a Kalashnikov, a rifle 222-bore and the snatched motorcycle. The police also arrested their two women accomplices from the crop fields. The police have registered a case against the accused and started investigation.
The trading community announced mourning and kept shutters down in protest. Traders leader Haji Jameel Fakhri expressed concern over the increasing incidents of dacoities in district.
He, however, lauded the timely action of the district police which resulted in killings of the dacoits.
