Senior PML-Q leader shot dead in Gujrat

GUJRAT  - A senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid (PML-Q) and his bodyguard were shot dead by gunmen in the Safal area of Gujrat on Sunday, police said.

Chaudhry Muhammad Tufail, a former district general secretary of the PML-Q, was attacked by the gunmen in Gujrat city shortly after he left his home in a car on Sunday afternoon. Tufail and his bodyguard died instantly. Police and political leaders reached the scene after the attack. Heavy contingent of police cordoned off the area after the firing incident and started search operation.
The attackers managed to escape from the scene after committing dual murder. The bodies were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Gujrat for medico-legal requirements.
Meanwhile PML-Q leadership including party chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and others have expressed profound grief over the targeted killing of its leader.
They also criticised the provincial government and law enforcement personnel for their failure to protect the lives of citizens and maintain law and order across the province and demanded the authorities to bring the culprits to book.
Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif also expressed his sorrow over the murder of PML-Q district general secretary and directed the police authorities to arrest the culprits as early as possible.
