5 more succumb to ongoing violence in Karachi

KARACHI - At least five people were killed in different incident of violence and firing, while the Rangers arrested over two dozens suspects during targeted operation in different areas of the city here on Sunday. A rickshaw driver was shot dead near Hill area within the jurisdiction of Mehmoodabad Police Station.

Police said Mushtaq, 35, was on his way to home in his rickshaw when unidentified assailants riding on motorbike opened indiscriminate fire. Resultantly, he sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to his heirs. The motive behind his killing has yet to be ascertained.
In another incident, two bullet-riddled bodies were found from Mangopir Road within the remits of Pirabad Police Station.
Police said the deceased were identified as Kashif, son of Shuja Ahmed and Omer Daraz, son of Moinuddin who were kidnapped and later their bodies were found at the said place. Their bodies brought to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to their families. The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained, while further investigation was underway.
Elsewhere, two bodies of men were found from bushes in Steel Town within the limits of Steel Town Police Station.
Police said victims were identified as Abdul Rehman, 40, and Zahid Hussain, 35, was kidnapped and later the culprits shot them dead and threw their bodies at said place.  After getting information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies at JPMC for postmortem. Police said deceased hailed from Panjgour, Balochistan and were missing from there. The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained, while further investigation was underway.
Meanwhile, the Rangers also carried out search operation in New Karachi area of the city and nabbed eleven suspects. Four more persons were taken into custody in Sherpao area of Landhi. The suspects have been shifted to undisclosed location for further investigation.
A car bomb in the city’s Abbas Town area on February 3 killed 51 persons and injured 140 over. The country’s Supreme Court took suo moto notice over the incident and during initial proceeding into the case held the Rangers equally responsible of the deadly incident with police.
The Rangers’ spokesman said that they had also held 15 suspects and recovered arms from their possession in a targeted operation in Pakhtoonabad area of Mangopir. “13 rifles, 50 pistols were recovered during the operation,” the spokesman said.
A senior police official giving details of the exercise said raids were made against alleged criminals in Docks, Shershah, Mauripur, Baldia, SITE- B, SITE -A, Pak Colony and Manghopir police limits on the instructions of SSP-West, Asif Ejaz Shaikh.
A Kalashnikov, three rifles, two rapid guns, 21 pistols, 25 magazines, 100 cartridges besides stolen and snatched property of public, gadgets used for gambling and contraband drugs were recovered from the accused, said the police official.
Those arrested included Tariq, Raju, Abdul Jabbar, Akhtar, Maqbool, Adnan, Sajid, Sharafat, Mohammad Shahzad, Mohammad Siddique, Mohammad Gul, Saleh Mohammad, Zeeshan, Jahangir, Zahir Shah, Khan Mohammad, Ejaz, Shahzaib, Abdul Mannan, Atif, Mohammad Yousuf, Said Hussain, Niaz Raza, Inshah Allah, Imran, Abdul Majeed and Attaullah.
Most of the arrested are said to be members of varied criminal groups active in the jurisdiction of above mentioned eight different police stations of Karachi west.
Docks and Manghopir Police was also said to have arrested three drug peddlers and recovered half kilogramme of heroin from them.
Docks police also raided a den and arrested professional gamblers and recovered money placed on stake besides relevant tools used for the prohibited activity.
SSP-West Asif Shaikh has announced awards and certificates of appreciation for the police teams which nabbed the much wanted accused.
