LAHORE – PML-Q President Senator Ch Shujaat Hussain has said that independence of election commission sans administrative powers is meaningless and the chief election commissioner should be authoritative in Pakistan like India for credibility of the general elections held under him.

The former prime minister in a statement issued on Sunday said that according to prevailing procedure, the CEC could not issue administrative order even to a district police officer, the chief secretary and IGP and if he issues any order, there was no procedure for its implementation. That is why, he said, he wanted the CEC to be authoritative enjoying full administrative powers to ensure free, fair and transparent elections with nobody raising finger over it afterwards.
