WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama sees the shooting of a 14-year-old Pakistani girl who protested against the Taliban as ‘barbaric’ and has offered air ambulance services, his spokesman said Wednesday.

“I know that the president found the news reprehensible and disgusting and tragic,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said, adding that US forces were ready to offer transport and treatment to Malala Yousafzai if appropriate. Special Correspondent from United Nations adds: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is ‘genuinely outraged’ over the attack by a Taliban gunman on the young Pakistani peace and education activist Malala Yousafzai, who is now recovering from her bullet wounds, his spokesman said Wednesday.
Spokesman Martin Nesirky told the regular UN briefing that the secretary-general was so moved that he is writing a personal letter to Malala’s family. He said that a formal statement from Ban would be issued later. Staff Reporter from Islamabad adds: Afghan President Hamid Karzai Wednesday telephoned President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday and expressed his sympathies over the terrorist attack on Mala Yusufzai in Swat. The Afghan President also expressed his concerns over terrorism in the region.
“Such incidents of barbarity strengthen national resolve to fight militants to the finish,” Zardari told the Afghan president.
