PESHAWAR – The first drone strike after PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s march against the CIA programme killed at least five people in North Waziristan Agency early on Wednesday.
As many as five suspected militants were killed and two others sustained injuries, when the US drones hit a compound. Four spy planes fired four missiles at a house reportedly being used by militants at Hurmaz village situated some 30km from Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan Agency.
Sources said that as a result five suspected militants were killed and two others got injured in the attack, while the compound was completely destroyed. It was not immediately ascertained whether any key militants were among the killed. The sources said that before and after the attack the drones continued hovering over the area for some time.
It was the first US drone attack since Imran Khan led a peace march to South Waziristan Agency against the US drones on October 7 last.
Islamabad has time and again asked US to halt the drone strikes on tribal areas, as it was a sheer violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty, besides such attacks fuel people sentiments against the US as well.
