KARACHI – The unabated incidents of target killing claimed at least 11 lives, including three activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in different parts of the City on Monday.
Three workers of the MQM and two others were wounded when gunmen sprayed bullets in Gulshan-e-Maymar area within the jurisdiction of Sohrab Goth police station.
The victims sustained bullet injuries and taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced the death of Adnan Sharafat, Shakir Gull and Waqas while admitted Arif and Humayun with critical bullet wounds.
Police said that victims were sitting outside the Haji Allah Buksh Welfare office which is also considered the office of MQM. Some six assailants came on four motorcycles and resorted to indiscriminate firing.
The bodies and the injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and treatment where score of MQM workers and relatives reached. DSP Qamar Ahmed confirmed the affiliations of the victims with the MQM and said that the culprits used sub machine gun, 9mm and TT pistols, adding that 20 empties of SMG, five of 9mm and four of TT pistols were found from the crime scene. The officer said that the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.
In another incident, an on-duty ASI who was posted to the intelligence wing was shot dead in a targeted attack in Sherpao Colony within Quaidabad police remits.
Police said that the cop namely Zulfiqar Ali, 40, was left police station along with another police officer for intelligence duty when at least four armed men riding on two motorcycles sprayed bullets on him. He died on the spot while the victim’s companion remained safe in the attack.
Police said that the deceased had played a vital role against the terrorists and criminal elements in Quaidabad areas. Presently, he was working to probe the twin-bomb attacks in Quaidabad area on January 24 that claimed four lives. Police suspected that the same elements who were involved in the twin-bombings might kill him.
Separately, a seminary teacher affiliated with Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) was shot dead at University Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal within remits of Sacchal police station.
Police said that the victim Qari Asim, 40, was on the way to home in Gulshan area when some unidentified assailants riding came close to him and opened fire. He died on the spot. ASWJ spokesman Maulana Saeed Akbar Farooqi claimed the victim’s affiliation and condemned the incident.
A man was associated with currency business was shot dead and his private security guard was wounded in Sarafa Bazaar within precincts of Kharadar police station.
Police said that the victim namely Imran Yousuf, 36, and a security guard Ejaz Mughal were busy collecting cash from clients when at least six armed men riding on three motorbikes intercepted high-roof van and started indiscriminate firing. Resultantly Imran died on the spot while Ejaz was wounded and the culprits took away Rs0.6 million. Police said apparently, it was an act of targeted killing but culprits while looting the cash tried to change the nature of the incident.
The bodies were found from Abbas Town within the jurisdiction of Sacchal police station. Police said one victim was identified as Ismail Ghani, 45, a resident of Sikander Goth and another victim has yet to be identified. Police said that deceased was kidnapped when he left home on Sunday evening, adding that his motorcycle was recovered from Sohrab Goth. police said deceased was involved in several cases of crime and land grabbing, adding that unidentified culprits after kidnapping the victims shot them multiple times and later dumped their bodies at said place.
A young man was found dead from Allah Buksh Himayati Goth within the vicinity of Bin Qasim police station.
Police said that the victim was identified as Omar, 32, hailed from Quetta and he was shot multiple times by unidentified culprits and later his body was found while the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.
At least ten-day-old decomposed body of a man was found from Lyari River within the limits of Shershah police station.
Police said the body was moved to morgue after autopsy at Civil Hospital, Karachi. He said physically no mark of torture or gunshot was found in his body. Meanwhile, an alleged bandit was shot dead in Fida Hussain Shaikha Raod in Lyari within the limits of Baghdadi police station on Monday. Police said that bandits shot and injured a bystander girl, Ayesha, 8. They were trying to flee when residents of the area managed to catch one of them and beaten him when some unknown people shot at him. The bandit was taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi where he succumbed to injuries. Police officials said that the identity of the victim has yet to be ascertained while his companion managed to flee.
