The meeting reviewed party’s preparations for the next general elections and also discussed strategies for an effective election campaign. The party men had come from the districts of Chiniot, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Faisalabad. Speaking on the occasion, Bilawal urged the office-bearers to further organise their efforts to serve people and inform them about PPP’s achievements in the last five years for their welfare and development.
He said workers should contact people in their constituencies and gain support for the party in the next elections. He said people of Pakistan were the real strengthen of PPP. He added that party will again seek mandate of the masses on the basis of its performance in the last five years. Bilawal said PPP successfully faced monumental challenges in its tenure and achieved many milestones including restoration of 1973 Constitution, National Finance Commission Award for transfer of resources to provinces, provincial autonomy, granting of rights to Gilgit-Baltistan, launching of Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan, renaming of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and success in fight against militancy.
He was of the view that coalition government steered the country through economic challenges despite global meltdown and maintained social safety network through Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). It also granted shares in state-run enterprises to workers and legislated to protect rights of women, minorities and vulnerable sections of society. The chairman said although a lot could have been done and needs to be done, yet the score card of the present government in face of many challenges was creditable. Bilawal vowed that PPP would move ahead with the legacy of Bhuttos and work wholeheartedly for protection of social and economic rights of the people and strong democratic institutions.
He said PPP continued with policy of political reconciliation to ensure that democracy remains on track and culture of political tolerance is promoted. He said there should be no doubt in any mind that next elections will be free, fair and transparent and people will get opportunity to exercise their right to vote.
The chairman advised the office-bearers to raise their level of interaction with people and resolve their problems at the grassroots. He said the office-bearers should monitor the ongoing development schemes in their areas and ensure that these projects are composite
