ISLAMABAD - After successfully managing Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to stay away from Tehreek Minhajul Quran proposed long march, now PPP leadership has contacted PML-N leadership to help frustrate Allama Tahirul Qadri’s long march who is still adamant to go ahead with his plan. The eleventh hour summersault by MQM was definitely a big blow to Allama Tahirul Qadri’s proposed long march but it was not known how President Asif Ali Zardari had managed all this.Political observers said that MQM’s dissociation from Allama Tahirul Qadri and rejoining the Cabinet slots was quite meaningful but how the PPP leadership had managed all this and at what cost was yet to be known. However, sources in the PPP said that no doubt President Asif Ali Zardari had played a key role in winning over MQM’s support but there was no big favour PPP had pledged to MQM leadership this time except reiteration of their earlier promise that in Karachi PPP would not field candidates on the National Assembly seats previously held by the MQM candidates.Sources further said that the major concern of MQM was the enforcement of controversial Sindh People’s Local Government Act 2012, but now it is too late as the general elections are round the corner and the matter would be left for future government to take care of.On the issue of delimitation of the constituencies and voters verification, the things were already put in motion by Election Commission of Pakistan on the direction of Supreme Court and PPP government has little role to provide any kind of solace to their junior coalition partner on this count.Sources in PPP said that they were already under tremendous pressure on enactment of Sindh Peoples Local Government Act 2012 as the nationalists from interior Sindh as well as one of their coalition partners Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) left the government and joined hands against what they termed as unjust act aimed at dividing the province. On the other hand, one of the members of the recently constituted four-member Committee Senator Mian Raza Rabbani approached Senator Ishaq Dar, considered close to Mian brothers, for some formal negotiations on evolving joint strategy to tackle with the Qadri’s long march but PML-N has declined to enter into dialogue on the issue. It is pertinent to mention here that a couple of days back PPP Core Committee had constituted a four-member committee comprising Syed Khursheed Shah, Farooq H. Naek, Nazar Muhammad Gondal and Mian Raza Rabbani to negotiate with the political stakeholders on the host of issues including the formation of caretaker set up and to evolve joint strategy to deal with the threats facing the political dispensation.Sources further said that after the refusal of PML-N on the issue of Qadri’s long march the pressure on PPP has increased and the chances of PPP contact with Tehreek Minhajul Quran chief on Saturday or Sunday seemed imminent to help stop his march.
