FAISALABAD – Government College University Vice Chancellor DR Iqrar Hussain on Friday alleged that the university’s Canal Road Campus project was being delayed to save a politician’s vested interest.
“A local MPA wants to take GC University’s new campus building to the Jhang Road from the Canal Road as his land is located at the Jhang Road but suitable place for the varsity’s new campus is the Canal Road,” the VC said. He was addressing a pressing conference at the university’s Committee Room. He said that the blame of terminating 150 employees from the university is not true. The GC University due to its standard had been listed in first six universities of the country. He said that the teachers who do not do their job honestly are criminals. However, till September 2012 both the buildings and hostels of the old campus would be constructed, he said.  The VC added that the new campus project was only delayed due to political interference and former administration along with a local MPA tried to shift the project to Jhang Road. He alleged that the MPA is doing all that just to increase value of his land and it was the reason he was creating hurdles for the construction of the new campus.
He said that millions of rupees work was done at canal road and several portions were constructed too but due to delay in its construction the construction expenditures were increasing day by day. He demanded that CM Shahbaz Sharif should immediately approve the project. He said that GC University’s another campus is also under construction at Layeh.
He alleged that former VC GC University Shahid Mehboob misappropriated RS23 crores due to which he was suspended. He added that misappropriation of RS1 core in college fees was caught red handed, manager of national bank and treasure office employees were involved in it.
He said that soon the university’s campus ground would be changed into stadium.
