Malik will form body to probe lynching

AHMEDPUR EAST - Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that a committee would be constituted to probe the incident took place in Chanigoth where an alleged blasphemer was lynched by mob on July 3, 2012.

His body later was set ablaze on the charge of desecration of the Holy Quran. The minister gave the assurance to MNA Arif Aziz Sheikh who called on him in Islamabad after his one-month visit to Australia. The interior minister added that after the committee’s report, issue would be resolved.  The MNA further told the minister that mostly outsiders were involved in the incident while the locals’ involvement is less than that of the outsiders. He said that because of Punjab police crackdown, 80 percent inhabitants had been shifted to other places and business did not yet restore despite the passage of 38 days.
A mob comprising thousands of persons had stormed into the Chanigoth police station on after receiving the report of burning of the Holy Quran incident and had taken the alleged blasphemer out of police lockup and dragged him to Chanigoth Chowk. Before leaving, the mob also set the police station and four police vehicles on fire while firing was exchanged between the police and the mob.
The Ahmedpur East DSP and three other police officials had sustained minor injuries while five persons were also wounded in a police baton charge. Meanwhile, the police arrested main accused Ejaz Khan Abbasi among 28 persons nominated in the FIR, as per police sources.
The police have held a total of 130 people responsible for the incident after watching different movies provided by different TV channels reporters.
PO HELD: The city police have rounded up a top 10 proclaimed offender who had allegedly cut the throat of his wife over a domestic dispute.
Naveed Shahwas wanted also in a theft case. ASI Ghaffar started the investigations and detained him in police lock up.
