PESHAWAR - Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister Bashir Khan Umarzai was injured along with his son and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa MPA Shakil Umarzai in a roadside bombing in Charsadda on Saturday.
Bashir Umarzai, his son Shakil Umarzai, former tehsil nazim Zafarullah Khan, driver Liaqat and three policemen were also got injured in the attack.
Rescuers shifted the injured to Peshawar Lady Reading Hospital. Police in charge in the hospital confirmed that they were out of danger.
Umarzai was a prominent ANP leader and had served as provincial minster for forests and local government. He contested election against Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao from NA-08 Charsadda.
His son Shakil Umarzi is a member of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from PK-19 Charsadda. Bashir Umarzai’s political rival and MPA from Charsadda Alam Zeb Umarzai was targeted by unknown attackers. He accused Bashir Umarzai of the attack and nominated him and his son in the FIR.
Shakil and Bashir Umarzi were on bail in the case and during yesterday’s hearing they requested the court to shift their trail to Peshawar due to security concerns.
Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan spokesman Ihsanullah Ihsan claimed the responsibility for the attack, saying that ANP leaders were targeted by the TTP. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has strongly condemned the bombing and expressed sympathies for Bashir Umarzai.
The governor said that terrorists would not be able to evade the law forever and soon they would be under arrest.
He wished the injured early recovery.
ANP Chairman Asfandyar Wali Khan also denounced the attack, calling it an inhuman act. He also sympathies the victims, praying for their quick recovery.
