HAFIZABAD - Local lawyers Thursday boycotted the courts to protest against the contempt bill and vowed to foil any government’s bid to clip the Supreme Court powers.

NEW DPO VOWS TO UPROOT CRIMES: The newly-appointed District Police Officer Muhammad Waqas Nazir has reiterated his resolve to root out crimes in the district. Addressing local journalists in his introductory meeting at his office, he said: “It is the duty of the public to check crimes in the society and police have to curb the crimes.”
He said it was general perception that organized crimes such as prostitution dens, drugs mafia bookies, gambling etc were being patronised by some cops and declared that he would eliminate such a mafia. He said water pilferage deserves no leniency and he would take stern action against pilferers. He said those getting register false and concocted cases were in fact were spreading hatred and lawlessness in the society and they should be curbed effectively. He said performance of the police in the district would be improved.
SASTA RAMAZAN BAZAARS FROM 18TH: Sasta Ramazan Bazaars would start functioning from July 18, DCO Muhammad Asif said. Chairing a meeting, which was attended by ACs of Pindi Bhattian and Hafizabad, and heads of different departments, the DCO issued directives to ensure the availability of foodstuff at controlled prices. He said the Ihtram Ramazan Ordinance would be enforced and no tea stall or restaurant would be allowed to open during fasting hours. Security around mosque would be augmented and control rooms would be set up in DPO and DCO offices.
