Violators of expenditure limit to face the music

MULTAN - Provincial Election Commissioner Mahboob Anwar declared on Thursday that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would investigate the expenditures made by candidates on their election campaign and action would be taken against those whose expenses exceeded the limit set by the ECP.
Talking to The Nation, he said that the electoral reforms being introduced by the ECP had started producing result, expressing his hope that the future polls would be transparent. He said that the impacts of electoral code of conduct could be seen in upcoming by poll in NA-151 as no large banners, hoardings or wall chalking were seen in the entire constituency. “You won’t see any polling camps outside the polling stations. And there will be no candidate-sponsored transport as well,” he added. He said that transparent ballot box was already being used while the candidates were barred from issuing electoral chits to the voters as ECP itself sent information to the voters via SMS. “Similarly, the ECP will deploy two officials at each polling station to issue these chits to the voters in case they do not receive the SMS,” he added.
DISTRICT FLOOD CONTROL ROOM ESTABLISHED: The district government have set up a District Flood Control Room in view of likely flood here on Thursday. Sources said that the provincial government had issued special directive to the all district governments to adopt precautionary measures on emergency basis for averting any untoward situation because of a likely heavy monsoon.
Meanwhile, the district government convened a meeting of all concerned departments to form a strategy for flood here at Pul Mauj Darya office of Rescue 1122 on Thursday. The participants of the meeting carried out mock flood exercises. The district emergency officer Dr. Waseem Hashmi and emergency officer Dr. Kaleem Ullah supervised the exercise and announced that another mock exercise would be held on July 16 at Chenab Bridge. They said that the motive behind holding such exercises was to improve coordination among all concerned departments and keep the necessary equipment ready for emergency situation.
