Tycoon met deposed CJ: SC registrar

ISLAMABAD - The Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry held no meetings with real estate business tycoon Malik Riaz Hussain after his restoration, Registrar Supreme Court Dr.Faqir Hussain clarified on Tuesday.

While talking to the media, the Registrar said that the Chief Justice had two or three meetings during his suspension period, adding, that he was also present during the meetings.
Dr.Faqir Hussain further said that during the meeting Riaz Malik suggested the Chief Justice to contact with President Asif Ali Zardari for restoration of his office. Besides, Malik also offered a bulletproof vehicle to the CJP, however, the Chief Justice turned down both the offers saying it would be inappropriate.
SC registrar said that he could not confirm whether the CJ was aware regarding the business deal between Malik Riaz Hussain and Dr. Arsalan Iftikhar.
Pakistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Akhtar Hussain has urged the SC to refer the Arsalan case to any investigating agency for further probe.
Condemning Malik Riaz Press conference, PBC Vice Chairman said that lawyers would not allow anyone to malign the judiciary, as it’s taking up missing persons cases.
Akhtar Hussain said that the conspiracy could not be ruled out against judiciary and if the political parties would not take stand with judiciary then military establishment would be strengthened.
He said that PBC had already decided to summon the meeting of all lawyers’ representatives for adopting unanimous stance regarding the matter.
Supreme Court Bar Association Secretary General Aslam Zaar stance was that court should take notice of Malik Riaz Press conference as he tried to malign the institution.
