The Supreme Court has said that the Punjab Government has failed to establish the causes of Joseph Colony incident on March 9.

In a short order Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry who is heading a 3 member bench hearing the suo moto case‚ said that the SSP Investigation Lahore informed the court that the complainants and witnesses of the incident are missing.
The court ordered that how the culprits would be apprehended if such a situation is prevailing.
The Supreme Court held the Inspector General (IG) police of Punjab and the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore responsible for the Joseph Colony.
The court maintained that the suspension of the SHO and DPO was not enough and no further negligence will be tolerated in the case.
The advocate general Punjab submitted reports of the Joseph Colony incident and of Gojra riots. He said that the government accepts responsibility for the mob attack and is taking steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
The acting IG Punjab blamed the DIG operations for the incident.
During case proceeding, Punjab Advocate General Ashtra Ausaf presented a report on Gojra tragedy and said the investigation was conducted behind closed-doors, however, the report was present on the website.
On this, the chief justice stated that although the proceedings of judicial commission are carried out in close-door meetings, but its recommendations are for the general public.
He said the common man should know the reasons behind the incident, adding that commission's purpose would remain incomplete if people are not aware of its findings.
The court has now adjourned hearing till Monday next.
On March 9, a mob of over 3,000 people set ablaze more than 150 houses of Christians in the Joseph Colony over alleged blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) by Sawan Masih, a 28-year-old Christian sanitation worker.
Authorities in Lahore arrested 150 people on charges of riot and arson.
