KHAIRPUR TAMEWALI - Former federal information minister and leader of the movement for restoration of the provincial status of Bahawalpur Mohammed Ali Durrani has greeted all the members of the Punjab Assembly for the unanimous passage of a resolution, espousing the restoration of Bahawalpur province here the other day.
He said that it was necessary to remove the sense of deprivation among people of Bahawalpur who lacked basic amenities of life. The former minister said that under 18th Amendment, the Federal government and the Parliament were now bound constitutionally to implement the resolution unanimously approved by the Punjab Assembly and without any delay fulfil the legal and constitutional obligations towards the restoration of Bahawalpur province.
Durrani pointed out that the resolution was a step towards the pact between Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Nawaz Sadiq Mohammed Khan Abbasi 5th. The resolution buries all the ethnic differences and it is a milestone towards a developed, stronger and prosper Pakistan,” the former federal minister claimed, adding that the Bahawalpur province would be the first province in the country which will be clear of wadaras and landlords created by the British Raj.
The former minister thanked PML-N leaders including Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and Rana Sana Ullah and all those present in the Punjab Assembly who supported the resolution including leaders of opposition parties PPP Raja Riaz Ahmed, PML-Q Chaudhry Zaheerud Din, PML-F Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood and MMA leader Ali Haider Noor Niazi. He said all of the members of treasury and opposition benches had voted against the injustices being meted out against the poor people of Bahawalpur and had taken a practical step for which the people of Bahawalpur shall always remain indebted. He also thanked JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and all those who stood up against the dictatorial steps of Yahya Khan and joined the people of Bahawalpur in their just struggle for the status of a province.
Woman committed suicide: A woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree in a nearby village here the other day.
As per detail, Tehmeena, wife of Mubasher, a resident of Village 59/EB, hanged herself from a tree over some domestic issues. The local police have registered a case.
