'Elements politicising blasphemy law issue'

December 14, 2010

KARA CHI Politicians and members from civil society have condemned the misuse of the blasphemy act in the country and demanded of the Government to make amendment in the law. They expressed their serious concerns over the orchestrated incidents occurred at Hyderabad in which Dr Naushad Ahmed Willani was wrongly accused, beaten and arrested on fabricated charges of blasphemy. They were speaking at a press conference held on Monday at Karachi Press Club organised by Pakistan Medical Association, Sindh. The press conference was held to raise voice against the unjustified arrest of Dr Naushad Ahmed Willani, following a complaint by a medical representative, namely Muhammad Faizan, who visited the doctor in Hyderabad. Faizan told police officials that Dr Willani threw his business card, which had his full name, Muhammad Faizan, in a dustbin during a visit to his clinic. Faizan accused Willani of committing blasphemy and asked police to register a case against the doctor.
