A police officer Ghulam Rasool riding an official vehicle was the prime target of the bomb attack detonated with remote controlled device.
According to report, the explosive (Improvised Explosive Device) was fitted with a motorcycle parked near a hotel on main Quetta-Jacobabad National Highway.
When the police van carrying SHO Ghulam Rasool and four police constables was moving, a huge bomb blast took place. Resultantly, two children who were passing by received critical injuries and died before being shifted to hospital. Police officer and one his armed guard are among the injured.
The deceased are identified as Bashir Ahmad, 12 and Liaquat Ali, 14 and said to be cousins. When contacted District Police Officer Abdul Hai Baloch told The Nation that police officer was the main target of the attack and the saboteurs detonated IED attached with a motorcycle and weighing 3 kg through a remote controlled device. He confirmed that two passers-by who were under 14 were killed and 20 others received injured. Dr. Abid Ali, medical officer on duty in District Headquarter Hospital told this scribe on phone that the condition of several injured was serious after the blast.
