Sherry meets new US Senate FRC chairman

WASHINGTON - Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States Sherry Rehman discussed Pakistan-US relations with Democratic Senator Robert Menendez, the new head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday.
Senator Menendez has replaced former senator John Kerry after his appointment as the US secretary of state. In her first interaction with Senator Menendez, Ambassador Sherry briefed him about the recent developments in the bilateral track and assured him of continued engagement with the new Congress to take the relationship to an upward trajectory, according to an embassy press release Ambassador Rehman also apprised the senator about the forthcoming election and the first democratic transition in Pakistan.
Matters of mutual interest including situation in Afghanistan, reconciliation process, Pakistan’s efforts to normalise relations with India were also discussed, the press release said. Senator Menendez acknowledged Pakistan’s role in stabilising the region and assistance to the Afghan government in the reconciliation process. He also informed the ambassador that he was looking forward to visiting Pakistan in near future and hoped to meet with Pakistani leadership as well as members of parliament.
