‘Petrol panic’ spreads

ISLAMABAD - AHMAD AHMADANI - The government is all set to withdraw the relief it had given to the consumers of petrol and CNG, resultantly a raise of Rs 5.75 per kilogram in the price of CNG and upto Rs 6.25 per litre in three petroleum products would take effect from September 17th across the country.

Sources in Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) informed TheNation that price of petrol is likely to witness sky-high increase of Rs 6.25 per litre on September 17th for one week as a result the price of petrol for the first time in the history of the country would cross the level of Rs 106 per litre.
They said that price of CNG is also likely to see a hike worth Rs 5.75 per kg for next one week.
Similarly, an upward trend is also on the cards in the prices of High-Octane Blended Component (HOBC) by Rs 1.80 per litre and kerosene oil Rs 0.55 per litre, while a downward trend is also likely in the prices of High Speed Diesel (HSD) oil by Rs 1.40 per litre.
Last week the government did not grant its approval to pass on the impact of the high cost of an imported cargo of petrol of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) to the consumers in a bid to provide relief to the already pressed consumers as a result the price of petrol had witnessed a decrease by Rs 4.65 per litre and CNG Rs 4.27 per kg on September 10th during weekly price determination of petroleum products.
