ISLAMABAD - In a revealing development, the spouses of nine Pakistani diplomats, including three top envoys posted abroad, are found to be foreign nationality holders, according to the information shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) with the National Assembly on Thursday.Surprisingly, the MoFA did not share this crucial information at any relevant platform before, despite the fact that the Foreign Office, being the top diplomatic body of the country, reflects Pakistan’s foreign policy line across the globe and its officials as well as their close family members are required to come clean on an issue as sensitive as concerning their nationality status.The information can spark criticism from the lawmakers and the public at large also as Pakistan’s top diplomatic body deals with the sensitive nature of work in connection with the foreign policy affairs.In reply to a question asked by Qudsia Arshad of PML-N, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hina Rabbani Khar informed the House that the spouses of nine top officers of the ministry posses nationalities of foreign countries besides Pakistan and among them, five have British nationality, two US and one each possess Australian and Dutch nationality.According to details, the spouse of Masood Khalid, High Commissioner for Pakistan to Malaysia (BS-22) possesses Australian nationality besides Pakistani. While the spouses of Abdul Basit, Ambassador of Pakistan to Berlin (BS-22) and Rab Nawaz Khan, Ambassador of Pakistan, Bucharest (BS-21) posses British nationality along with Pakistani.Similarly, the spouses of Masroor A Junejo, Additional Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs (BS-21); Rahim Hayat Qureshi, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Pakistan, Rome (BS-19) and Khalid Majid, Counsellor, High Commission for Pakistan, London (Bs-19) posses British and Pakistani nationality simultaneously. The spouse of Zaheer Aslam Janjua, Director General, MOFA (BS-20) and Qasim Mohiuddin, Second Secretary Embassy of Pakistan, Tehran (BS-18) posses US nationality along with Pakistani. The spouse of Ahmad Hussain Dayo, Minister, Embassy of Pakistan, Dublin (BS-20) possesses Dutch nationality besides Pakistani.
