ISLAMABAD- Despite shortage of locomotives coupled with swelling financial constraints, the Pakistan Railways (PR) has decided to operate three trains to facilitate the passengers destined to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their nearer and dear ones at their native homes.
Sources informed TheNation that Railway authorities had made special arrangements for passengers on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr and two trains would be operated from Karachi while one from Peshawar. They told that the first special train would depart from Cantt Station (Karachi-Sindh) to Peshawar (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) on August 16. This first Eid special train will leave Karachi at 11am on 16th August and will reach Peshawar at 08pm on 17th August and will travel through Sahiwal and Lahore. While another Eid special train will depart from Karachi at 11am on 17th August and will reach Rawalpindi on 18th August at 4p.m with stopovers in Faisalabad and Waziristan. To facilitate people on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, the third Eid special train will depart from Peshawar on 18th August at 12noon and will reach Lahore same day at 8:30pm.
Official sources in Ministry of Railways on the condition of anonymity has confirmed the set plan of operating Eid Special Trains on the eve of upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr to facilitate the passengers intend to have fun with family, friends, relatives etc in their countryside homes. The Railways Minister Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour Eid has further directed the Railways authority to leave no stone unturned to facilitate the passengers and necessary arrangements should be made in this regard. The minister had also directed the authority to run three Eid special trains to be composed of extra coaches and bogies with good conditions and would also include the economy class to clear the rush on Railways Stations.
Sources further told that reduced number of Eid Special Trains was because of short of locomotives, and financial crunch being faced by Pakistan Railways. Over a question of availability of much talked Diesel, the official said all arrangements including the availability of Diesel for these three Eid Special trains had been made prior to the plan.
However, he admitted that supply of Diesel is depending on time-to-time requirement due to financial crisis being faced now with cash starved Pakistan Railways (PR).
