Shutter down in Balochistan districts

August 15, 2012

QUETTA - A complete shutter down strike was observed in all Baloch dominated districts of Balochistan on the eve of Independence Day on Tuesday on the call of Baloch National Front (BNF).
The strike call was also supported by other major nationalist parties, including Baloch Republican Party (BRP) and Baloch National Movement (BNF), terming the 14th August as ‘Black Day’ against what they regarded the oppressive State policy and continued ‘kill and dump’ policy of Baloch youth.
Moreover, the security situation also remained serious in the provincial capital and a bomb planted underneath a table went off near Jinnah Town in front of a food point. As a result, 12 people sustained critical injuries.
The shutter down strike was observed in Panjgour, Turbat, Mand, Tump, Naseerabad, Khuzdar, Mastung, Usta Muhammad, Sobatpoor, and Dera Allah Yar where the cities wore a deserted look due to the strike. Traffic was thin and people preferred to remain indoors due to the sensitive security situation.
Moreover, some people also took out a rally in district Nushki and burnt tyres in front of Habib Bank Nushki. They also chanted anti-govt slogans. However, the government had taken stringent measures of security during the day and security forces kept on patrolling throughout all the districts of Balochistan to avert any untoward incident.
No major incident could be reported from any part of the province.
