ORAKZAI AGENCY/ PESHAWAR – As many as eight militants were killed in a pitched gunbattle with security forces in Mamozai area of Orakzai Agency, while in another exchange of fire in Sheikhan area near Peshawar two militants and a law enforcer were killed, official sources said on Sunday. A team of security officials was patrolling in Dolania locality of Mamozai, some 53 kilometers in north from Gheljo, headquarters of Orakzai Agency, when it came under a militant attack from two sides at around 11:00 am, the sources said. As the patrol party repulsed the attack, eight militants were killed and three others wounded, added the sources, a soldier, identified as Imdadullah, also sustained injuries in the crossfire. The sources further said that an explosive-laden vehicle was also destroyed during the clash. In Peshawar, police sources said, a clash between security officials and militants left two terrorists and a Frontier Constabulary (FC) official dead. An exchange of fire ensued when an FC team reached Aziz Market on being informed about the presence of a bomb there. A search operation was in progress when a group of militants appeared on the scene and opened fire on the FC team, killing Ayaz, a paramilitary soldier. After this, both the sides exchanged heavy firing that resulted in the killing of two militants. Following the incident, the FC and police started targeting militant hideouts.A couple of days ago, a police inspector, namely Hukam Khan, was killed while trying to defuse an improvised explosive device.
