At least six policemen including a Superintendent of Police laid down their lives in the line of duty after militants attacked a check post in Matanai area here in Peshawar on Sunday night.
SP Rural, Khurshid Khan and five other junior police officers were martyred in the attack.
At least 12 cops were reported to have been injured, who were shifted to the hospital.
According to details, more than 300 militants stormed a police check post located in Ghaziabad area of Matni near Peshawar late on Sunday.
Around 35 security officials present inside the police check post retaliated the attack and the exchange of firing continued for more than three hours.
The bodies and wounded police officials were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) Peshawar where condition of the two injured cops stated to be critical.
Heavy contingent of police and FC reached the scene after the attack and started search operation.
Later the funeral prayer of all the security men was offered in police lines on Monday morning. Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti and senior police officials also attended the prayer.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Rehman Malik announced Sitara-e-Shujaat for martyred SP Khursheed Khan.
Talking to media persons Rehman Malik strongly condemned militants attack on police check post and sought report about the incident from IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He also praised the courage of FC and police officials who offered resistance during militants attack.
The minister said the conspiracy to attack Malala Yousufzai was hatched by militant groups operating at Pak-Afghan border.
He also ruled out any possibility of military operation in North Waziristan agency.
“For the time being there is no plan for military operation in North Waziristan. But if needed, the decision would be taken by political and military leadership of the country in harmony,” he said.
