The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of the suo moto case over the murder of Shahzeb Khan, till Jan 29 after Karachi police sought two weeks to submit a comprehensive report about the case.
DIG-South Shahid Hayat during hearing told the court that the prime accused in the case, Shahrukh Jatoi, had surrendered himself to authorities in the Pakistani consulate in Dubai and that authorities were in contact with Dubai police.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry inquired how Shahrukh Jatoi had managed to exit the country.
DIG Hayat replied that a four-member investigations committee of the Federal Investigations Agency (FIA) was looking into the matter.
The chief justice while expressing his dissatisfaction over the police’s performance further said that no effective action had taken place and that the main-accused and his father (Sikandar Jatoi) had turned themselves to the authorities.
The bench adjourned the hearing till Jan 29 after Karachi police requested for a two-week time to submit a comprehensive report on the case.
