PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah, has said that the services institutions especially in the health sector offering quality care facilities can significantly contribute not only to shoulder the responsibility within the country but also in image building of the nation abroad.
There is also a need to lessen the financial burden of healthcare on deserving patients and provide solace and comfort to this part of society that is not capable of meeting the high cost of quality health care, he added.
Addressing a seminar on Radiation Oncology Services at a private hospital and Research centre in Hayatabad on Saturday, as chief guest, the Governor appreciated the management of the institution for having established an Endowment Fund to assist the financially handicapped patients of serious nature.
The Governor also formally inaugurated Linear Accelerator; a modern diagnostic machine, for cancer patients which has been installed at the hospital at the cost of Rs 250 million by its management.
Earlier, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Chief Executive of the hospital, welcomed the Governor and highlighted the achievements and future development plans of the institution and said that they provided a financial assistance to the tune of almost Rs 70 million to the deserving patients during the last about two years.
Appreciating the commissioning of the Linear Accelerator (LINAC) in the private sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shaukat said, it will indeed go a long way in ameliorating the difficulties of cancer patients and their families who had no other alternative but to wait for months for their turn to receive the service at IRNUM.
“I am sure today’s inauguration of the service in the General Hospital will be a great relief to the patients and also will help shorten the waiting period at IRNUM.
He also noted the future development plan of the institution; encompassing another 300-bed hospital; a medical school, a nursing college and a centre of excellence for paramedic studies and congratulated its management for the courageous initiative.
