Mourners ‘welcome’ Senator with shoes, bottles

PESHAWAR - To vent their anger the enraged protesters of Tehsil Bara Khyber Agency, who had taken the bullet-riddled dead bodies of the 18 people recovered from Bara in front of the Governor’s House to stage protest over this brutality, attacked Senator Hamidullah Jan Afridi with shoes and bottles when he arrived there to express sympathies with the mourners here on Wednesday.

During this episode, a protestor got injured critically when a bodyguard of the Senator resorted to aerial firing. The injured identified as Yar Bacha was later shifted to a local hospital for medical treatment.
“We have not seen him (the Senator) in the last five years. How have he now arrived here to add to our miseries; we will not let him come here again,” the angry mob uttered this with loud voice.
They said that if he does not play his role to stop military operation and killing of innocent people in Khyber Agency, why is he representing million of tribal people.
Meanwhile, Governor Masood Kausar met the representative jirga of the protestors and assured to hold an inquiry into the killings of their people.
He also announced to provided Rs 0.4 million special compensation for each innocent person killed in the incident, besides the normal compensation of Rs 0.3 million.
He said that the presence of security forces in the area is meant to restore peace and protect life and property of peace-loving people. If the tribes through their elders guarantee to maintain peace, the security forces will not stay there even for a single day, he made it clear.
Provincial Minister for Information and Public Relations Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastagir Akhtar, Inspector General Police, Akbar Khan Hoti, Additional Chief Secretary, FATA, Dr. Tashfin Khan, Secretary Home, Muhammad Azam Khan, Commissioner, Peshawar, Tariq Jamil and the Political Agent, Khyber Agency, Mutahir Zeb were also present on the occasion.
