Aitzaz, Zahid Bokhari banned in Sindh bars

KARACHI/RAWALPINDI - Senior lawyer Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan and Zahid Bokhari, the counsel for Malik Riaz who is the main character in the controversy involving Arsalan Iftikhar, have been banned from entering all the bars of Sindh.

Karachi Bar Association President Mehmoodul Hassan on Saturday said both the lawyers would be responsible for the consequences if they tried to enter any bar in the province. He said President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani were behind the conspiracy against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who had made sure that the affairs of his own son should be probed.
Mehmood said the contempt of court proceedings should be initiated against Zahid Bokhari since no lawyer could become a spokesman for his client.
He announced that the lawyers would boycott court proceedings on Monday against, what he described, as conspiracy against the apex court.
Meanwhile, the lawyers of Rawalpindi expressed solidarity with Chief Justice Iftikhar and staged a protest against Malik Riaz’ allegations on Saturday. The protesters also burnt effigies of some politicians and important figures.
They observed a complete boycott of their normal duties and gathered at the Kachahri Chowk and chanted slogans in favour of CJP and against Malik Riaz. The lawyers said they would foil every conspiracy against the independent judiciary.
