RE Condemning release of Raymond Davis, the leadership of mainstream religious and political parties have said that the incident has put a question mark on the independence and respect of the country.
Blaming the federal, provincial governments and the intelligence agencies for melodramatic ending of Raymond Davis episode, the leaders said the rulers have bowed to the US and ditched the nation.
Addressing a hurriedly called press conference at Mansoora on Wednesday evening, Jamaat-i-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan announced countrywide protests today (Thursday) against the sell-out of the countrys independence and honour and urged the people to take to the streets.
The federal and the Punjab governments as well as the ISI had freed Raymond Davis after accepting US supremacy. The government and the military establishment were guilty in releasing the US spy.
Munawar Hasan said sudden departure of Shahbaz Sharif to London was an important link in the whole chain of events. He said Sharifs have betrayed the country and the nation and they would be in the dock on this count.
He said that this was not the issue of Dayiat only.
Raymond Davis was also accused of possessing illegal and prohibited weapons, involvement in unlawful activities and spying and photograph of sensitive places had been recovered from him. These were the crimes against the state and Raymonds release and quick exit from the country in spite of these crimes, were a big question mark on Pakistans independence and rule of law.
He said, The ISI-CIA understanding had threatened Pakistans independence and sovereignty. He said US President Obama and US governments keen interest in Raymonds release proved that he was the biggest US spy in the country who was running a network of spying and his release was a great threat to Pakistans solidarity.
He said that the Sharifs role in spite of all these facts, was most condemnable, and the whole nation felt itself insecure. He said the Punjab government had been under US pressure from the very first day as it did not take into custody the US consulates vehicle that had crushed Ibadur Rahman to death nor it arrested four Americans who had come to Raymonds help.
That was the reason Ibadur Rahmans heirs were still seeking justice. He said the heirs counsel was kept in unlawful confinement and not allowed to appear in the court to plead for his clients, which was the worst kind of state pressure.
The Sunni Ittehad Council has vehemently condemned the release and announced countrywide protests today.
The Punjab government has played a shameful part in this episode along with the Centre. The release has caused huge embarrassment for the Pakistani nation and proved that the government merely follows the dictates of foreign powers said Sahibzada Fazal Karim, an MNA and the chairman of Sunni Ittehad Council. He said, Raymond Davis wasnt only involved in the killing of three Pakistani citizens but also in several suicide attacks across the country. He said heirs of three youths could not pardon Raymond Davis as he was carrying out criminal activities against the entire nation. He urged the nation to rise and take to streets to defend the national honour.
Expressing anger over dramatic release Raymond Davis, Jamaatud Dawa chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed said that Davis was not only killer of Faizan and Fahim but also responsible for the killing of hundreds of innocent citizens.
He said that release of Davis on the US pressure and under the official patronage has hurt the sentiments of 180 million Pakistanis. He said that it was clear to the entire world community that Davis was on a secrete mission and was destabilising the country by facilitating drone attacks and terrorist activities. He said release of killer of hundreds of innocent people in the name of compensation was an assault on freedom of Pakistan. He said that the nation would never forgive the rulers and state institutions involved in the release of CIA man.
Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith has rejected the decision of release and termed it a decision under pressure. It also stage protest today across the country.
Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith leaders, including Nasarullah Khan, Imtiaz Ahmed Mujahid, Hafiz Saad Rafique and Attaur Rehman have stated that by releasing Davis, an assault had been made on national honour.
Meanwhile, former ISI chief Gen (r) Hameed Gul called the deal a shameless surrender, for which, he held both the federal and the Punjab governments and security agencies responsible. He alleged that the elected representatives had been lying to the nation.
Who will pay for the crime committed against the nation, he said. Gen Gul said Davis was on an important mission to Pakistan and the weapons recovered from him were supposed to be only with the action agents.
He said so important was Davis for the US that even President Obama had to lie about his identity and status.
Asked what the intelligence agencies heads could do now that the deal had been reached, the former ISI chief said: They may protest or resign.
He said he would protest before the Parliament House on Thursday (today) to express his resentment against the deal.
Separately, the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan said the deal had disappointed the entire nation that could stoke extremism and militancy in society would increase.
According to him, the victims families were pressured for the deal. They may have met the legal formalities, but they have committed a very serious moral offence, Imran Khan said
