ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Malik Riaz’ objection over Shoaib Suddle Commission’s plea for seeking more 30 days time for completing the probe into Rs342 million alleged business deal between Riaz and Dr Arsalan Iftikhar.

A two-judge bench of Justices Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard Riaz’s review petition against its August 30 judgment in Arsalan-Raiaz case.
The commission had told the apex court on Monday that the inquiry could not be completed within the stipulated period of 30 days due to non-cooperation of Malik Riaz and dilly-dallying by the interior ministry in providing the required experts and support staff.
Counsel for Riaz, Zahid Bukhari, raised objection over plea of the commission for more time. Rejecting his plea, the bench found that granting more time to the commission in the instant matter was sole discretion of the court because of its administrative nature, adding that the decision over the application for more time to commission could be taken in the chamber as well.
Justice Jawwad S Khawaja observed that the commission had sought more time to probe a current matter and submitted the reasons for delay in the investigation which could not be ignored. Due to shortage of time, the court decided to resume hearing of Riaz’ review petition on November 6.
