Terror can’t be ruled out in factory fire: Malik

KARACHI - Interior Minister Rehman Malik Sunday said that possibility of terrorism activity cannot be ruled out in Karachi factory fire and no one found guilty will be spared.Talking to media outside the burnt garment factory, the minister rejected the initial report submitted by the police, and observed that the terrorists want to destabilise the country through sabotage activities in Karachi. He said, “According to the (police) report, the generator caught fire due to electric overcharge” while the boiler was also installed too close to the generator. But the report regarding the generator tripping was wrong as it was working fine, he said, adding that the fire did not start due to the boiler and the generator. He said that the owners of the factory would not be harassed; however, no one found responsible for the incident would be spared. He added that they were also investigating that why the fire brigade reached the spot so late.Malik noted that both Karachi and Lahore incidents have similarities, but any definite thing could only be said after the investigations are completed. As much as 260 workers were burnt to death when a fire broke out in this garment factory in Baldia Town area of Karachi on Tuesday. A fire at a shoe factory the same day claimed 25 lives.
