VEHARI - The Punjab Emergency Service commonly known as Rescue 1122 is a symbol of relief for victims and making an all out-effort to rescue the masses in mishaps.

District emergency officer Dr Abid Husain Zafar said, “We are doing our level best to rescue people with full passion. Emergency offices received 136,419 emergency calls. They received 15,647 information calls, 3203 hoax calls and helped 3,608 seriously injured people in road mishaps. As many as 213 burnt victims were shifted to hospitals. Average response time of rescue team to reach the sites was five minutes and it can be shorter if the road traffic cooperates with emergency vehicles, the officer said.
Dr Abid also said, “Hoax calls can make our performance poor. Some time when our vehicle reaches the spot we are pointed out and we find no accident there, it wastes our time and affects the real victims.
In-charge control room Muhammad Imran said that rescue telephone number is very easy to remember with no call charges. Rescue command and control room is the department where all the calls are received and responded timely. In this department, more than two active and well mannered officials remain present to tackle situation, he added.
Rescue Safety Officer Abdul Haq is educating youngsters in three tehsils of Vehari about the safety measures and precautionary steps under the community safety programme organised by the Rescue Vehari.
