Ministry rejects rumours about Hafeez resignation

ISLAMABAD - The Finance Ministry on Sunday rebuffed the rumours regarding resignation of its minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, saying he would continue to perform his duties in the same capacity.
Rana Assad Amin, advisor and spokesperson to the Finance Ministry, denied that Hafeez had tendered his resignation. Talking to TheNation he said Hafeez would perform his official duties on Monday.  Earlier, strong rumours regarding resignation of Finance Minister Dr Hafeez were in the air on Sunday in the federal capital.  "Dr Hafeez resigned from the post of federal finance minister," quoted private TV channels adding that Hafeez could be nominated for the post of caretaker prime minister.
Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh had assumed charge of Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance on March 19, 2010 after the resignation of Shaukat Tarin from the post of finance minister.
